Pattern Engine: Install, License, and Starter Site Setup
Get Pattern Engine running on your WordPress site so you can import professional page designs for your tour business, match your brand colors, and stay up to date with automatic updates and support.
What Pattern Engine does
Pattern Engine is a premium plugin that gives you access to ready-made page designs for the Travelverse theme. A plugin is a small add-on that extends what your WordPress site can do.
Instead of building every page from scratch, you can pick from a library of professional templates and add them to your site in a few clicks. It also lets you change your site's colors and add small bits of custom code if you ever need to.
Think of it this way: if you want your tour company's homepage to look polished and professional but don't have the time to design it yourself, Pattern Engine hands you a catalog of pre-built pages you can pick from, import, and then fill in with your own trip details.
To use all the features Pattern Engine offers, the WP Travel Engine plugin must also be active on your site. You'll find all your plugins listed under Plugins on the left sidebar of your WordPress dashboard.
Install and activate the plugin
Before you start, you'll need to have purchased Pattern Engine and downloaded the .zip file from your WP Travel Engine account. The .zip file is the package WordPress uses to install the plugin.
Purchase and download the plugin
If you haven't already, purchase and download the Pattern Engine .zip file from the Pattern Engine product page.
Log in to WordPress
Log in to your WordPress admin dashboard. This is the control panel behind your website where you manage everything.
Open the plugin uploader
On the left sidebar of your dashboard, hover over Plugins and click Add New. Then click Upload Plugin at the top of the page.
Upload and install
Click Choose File and select the .zip file you downloaded. Then click Install Now.
Activate the plugin
Once the installation finishes, click Activate. This turns the plugin on so it's ready to use.
Pattern Engine is now installed and running on your site. Next, you'll activate your license key so you get updates and support.
Activate your Pattern Engine license key
Your license key is a unique code that came with your purchase. Activating it keeps Pattern Engine connected to updates and support. The WP Travel Engine team regularly releases updates that fix compatibility issues, patch bugs, improve security, and add new features. Without an active license key, you won't receive any of those updates.
If you're running the Travelverse theme, you can activate the license right from its dashboard:
Open the Travelverse dashboard
On the left sidebar of your WordPress dashboard, go to Appearance > Travelverse > Dashboard. The Dashboard is the control center for your theme's settings.
Enter and activate your license key
Enter your Pattern Engine license key in the field provided, then follow the prompts to activate it.
Using a different theme? You can activate the same license key under Dashboard > Settings > Pattern Engine instead of the Travelverse dashboard.
Your license is now active. You're all set to start customizing your site.
Configure Travelverse dashboard settings
Once Pattern Engine is active on a site running the Travelverse theme, new settings show up in the Travelverse Dashboard. These let you control how wide your content sits on the page, what colors your site uses, and add small code snippets if you ever need them.
General settings
Your container width controls how much of the screen your content fills. A wider container uses more of the screen, which can look great on large monitors. A narrower container keeps things more centered and focused, which can be easier to read on smaller screens.
You can find these settings at Appearance > Travelverse > Dashboard > Settings > General.
| Setting | What it does |
|---|---|
| Container Width | Sets how wide your site's content stretches across different devices. |
| Narrow Container Width | Sets a tighter width for pages and posts where you want content more focused, like a blog article or a single trip description. |
Don't worry too much about getting these perfect right away. You can always come back and adjust them once you see how your pages look.
Colors
These settings control the colors used across your entire site. For example, if your tour company brand uses a specific shade of green, you'd set that as your Primary Color so it shows up consistently on buttons, links, and highlights throughout your site.
You can find these at Appearance > Travelverse > Settings > Colors.
| Setting | What it does |
|---|---|
| Primary Color | The main color for your website. Shows up on buttons, links, and highlights. |
| Secondary Color | The supporting color for your website. Used alongside the primary color. |
| Text Color | The color applied to all general body text on your site. |
| Heading | The color applied to all section and page headings. |
| Accent Color One | The background color for content sections. |
| Accent Color Two | The background color for template areas. |
| Background | The background color behind everything on your website. |
Try starting with your brand's main color as the Primary Color, then adjust the rest from there. You can always change them later.
Custom scripts
This section lets you add small pieces of code to your site's header, body, or footer without editing theme files or installing another plugin. For example, if you need to add a Google Analytics tracking code to understand where your website visitors are coming from, this is where you'd paste it.
You can find this at Appearance > Travelverse > Settings > Custom Scripts.
Wrap your code in <script></script> tags. Code entered without these tags won't run.
Add your script
Enter your header, body, or footer script in the matching field. Each field corresponds to a different part of your site's page structure.
Publish your changes
Click Publish at the top right of the page to apply the script to your live site.
This is an advanced feature. If you're not sure what code to add here, you likely don't need it right now. You can always come back to it later.
Custom CSS
CSS (Cascading Style Sheets) is the language that controls how your website looks. Things like fonts, spacing, and colors are all controlled by CSS. This setting lets you add your own CSS to fine-tune your site's design beyond what the Colors settings offer.
For example, if you wanted to make your trip prices stand out with a larger font size, you could add a small piece of CSS here to do that.
You can find this at Appearance > Travelverse > Settings > Custom CSS.
Wrap your CSS in <style></style> tags. Code entered without these tags won't apply.
Like Custom Scripts, this is an advanced feature. If you're not comfortable with CSS, you can skip this for now and come back to it when you need it.
Import starter sites
This is where Pattern Engine really pays off. Instead of building pages from a blank screen, you can import ready-made designs and then swap in your own text and images.
Say you run a multi-day trekking company and want a homepage with a large hero image, a "featured trips" section, and a booking button. There's likely a pre-built template in the library that already has that layout. You import it, replace the placeholder text with your own, and you're done.
The WP Travel Engine plugin must be installed on your site to access these templates.
Open the page or post editor
On the left sidebar of your WordPress dashboard, go to Pages or Posts and click Add New. Pages are for permanent content like your homepage or "About Us" page. Posts are for blog entries or news updates.
Open the Design Library
Look for the Design Library button in the editor and click it. This opens the full list of available templates you can import.
Select a pattern or page
Click on any pattern or page you'd like to use to preview it. Take your time browsing. You can preview as many as you like before committing.
Import it
Once you've found one you like, click Import to bring the pattern or page onto your site.
Publish your changes
Review the imported content, replace any placeholder text with your own, then click Publish at the top right of the page to make it live.
Your page is now live with a professional design. You can repeat this process for any other pages you want to add.
