Tour Search Widget
Help travelers find the right trip fast by adding a search and filter bar to any page, so they can narrow trips by destination, activity, or trip type.
Overview
The Tour Search widget adds a search bar to your travel website. Travelers can use it to filter trips by destination, activity, or trip type. A widget is a small building block in Elementor that adds one specific feature to your page. In this case, it adds a search and filter bar.
Say you offer trips across Nepal, Bhutan, and Tibet. A traveler who only wants Bhutan treks can pick "Bhutan" from the destination filter and see only those trips. That saves them from scrolling through trips they're not interested in.
What you'll need before you start
You'll need two things:
- Elementor installed and active on your WordPress site
- The WP Travel Engine - Elementor Widgets plugin installed and active
Once both are active, you can add and customize the Tour Search widget using the Elementor page builder. Elementor is a drag-and-drop page builder for WordPress that lets you design pages without writing code.
Choosing which filters to show
These settings control which filter dropdowns appear in the Tour Search widget. A filter lets travelers narrow down trips by a specific category, like destination or activity.
Select taxonomy
This is where you choose which filter dropdowns travelers see in the search bar. A taxonomy is a way of grouping your trips, like sorting them by destination or activity type.
You can choose from:
- Destination - lets travelers filter by where the trip goes
- Activities - lets travelers filter by what the trip involves, like trekking or sightseeing
- Trip Types - lets travelers filter by the kind of trip, like group tours or private tours
You can pick more than one. Say you run trips across several countries and also offer different styles like adventure and cultural tours. You'd select both Destination and Activities so travelers can filter by either.
Show terms by
This controls how the options inside each filter are displayed. Terms are the individual choices inside a filter. For example, if Destination is the filter, the terms would be "Nepal," "Bhutan," "Tibet," and so on.
- Default - automatically shows all terms from the selected filter. If you have 20 destinations, all 20 appear.
- Choose From the List - lets you pick specific terms yourself. This is useful if you want to highlight popular destinations and hide others. Say you have 50 destinations but want to feature only your top 10 for the season. You'd pick those 10 here.
That covers the filter options. Next up are a few extra settings for the search button.
Additional settings
These settings let you fine-tune how the search bar looks and behaves.
- Show Category - turns the category filter on or off in the search bar. If you don't need category filtering, you can switch it off to keep the search bar clean.
- Button Text - sets the words shown on the search button. The default is usually something like "Search." You can change it to anything you like, such as "Find My Trip" or "Search Tours."
- Button Link - lets you send travelers to a specific page when they click the search button, instead of the default search results page. Say you've built a custom trip listing page that you prefer over the default one. You'd paste that page's web address here.
- Button Icon - adds a small icon to the search button. You can upload your own image file (SVG format) or pick one from the icon library built into Elementor. An icon gives the button a more polished look, like a magnifying glass that signals "search."
That covers everything the Tour Search widget can do. Pick your filters, set your button text, and your travelers will be able to find the right trip in seconds.
